Dr. Raphael Hirschi

Prof Raphael Hirschi completed a MSc in Physics at EPFL (1999) and a PhD in Astrophysics at Geneva University (2004) in Switzerland. Since joining Keele University in 2007, he has determined the mass and fate of the most massive stars and led various large research projects (ERC grant, COST Action). Outside of Astrophysics, he is the director of the Digital Society Institute (DSI) at Keele, addressing the question: “If we can recreate stars in computers, what else can we do with computers?”. In the DSI context, he is leading research on energy storage (hydrogen and batteries) for a sustainable future.
