Keynote Address: Thermal Storage in the Decarbonisation of Industrial Heat

Many industrial sites struggle to find ways to decarbonise their heat affordably. Fortunately, newer technologies have now reached the point where they can deliver cost savings compared to fossil fuels.

Depending on the site’s requirements a combination of behind-the-meter solar, heat pumps, and Caldera’s Storage Boilers can deliver an optimal solution. This session will cover the pros and limitations of each technology, and how to use them to deliver both carbon and cost reductions.

 Discussion points:

  • The challenge of industrial heat decarbonisation is the price of natural gas – how can electrification beat gas?
  • Heat pumps are an efficient way to decarbonise heat due to their COP – what are their limitations?
  • How does thermal storage stack up against other storage solutions such as batteries?
