The Role of CHP in the Energy Transition

The aim of my talk is to discuss and promote the role of gas fired CHP (Combined Heat and Power) systems to provide electrical power and heat, where the utility grid is either insufficient, intermittent or unavailable, as a result of the energy transition. Furthermore, when operated on bio gas, with heat recovery, a CHP system represents a means to turn a waste product into useful energy with extremely high efficiency, and without recourse to fossil fuels, so fighting climate change. When operating on natural gas, a CHP system my offer a highly efficient and cost effective energy source, enabling large energy consuming projects to proceed, and representing a rapid payback on investment. And if fuelled from biogas, then there is the added benefit of not consuming fossil fuels to boot.
