The Role of Biomethane
NESO’s FES25 sets out a future power system with a changing mix of generation, storage and demand-side resources where maintenance security, operability and affordability require a portfolio of technologies with different operating characteristics. Alongside renewables, interconnection, storage and low-carbon dispachable plant, gaseous fuels continue to appear in NESO’s pathways as a source of controllable, storable energy that can be called on when needed. This session will explore NESO’s view on the role of biomethane and touch on related work NESO is undertaking.
Discussion Points:
Based on FES25, what roles could biomethane play in the future power system?
How is NESO currently treating biomethane across its various workstreams?
