Prior to joining HermeticaBlack Alex was an Investment Manager and latterly a Senior Asset Manager for an investment management company. As an Investment Manager Alex focused on originating and executing VCT (Venture Capital Trusts) and EIS (Enterprise Investment Scheme) qualifying investments. In her role as a Senior Asset Manager Alex worked primarily on the Heat Networks Investment Project (HNIP), a UK Government funded scheme to catalyse growth in good quality, low carbon district heating projects. Alex performed an active role in the successful mobilisation and launch of HNIP through to originating new pipeline opportunities and latterly leading the post Investment Committee execution and Monitoring and Reporting function.   

Alexandra works as a Renewable Energy Relationship Director for Lombard, supporting businesses to accelerate their renewable energy adoption and drive sustainable growth. With a strong background in strategy, data and analytics, and climate-focused roles across NatWest Group, Alexandra brings a unique blend of commercial insight and environmental expertise to her work.

Andrew Bailey is Head of Technical and Product at AlphaESS UK, specialising in deployed battery energy storage systems across residential, commercial, and utilityscale projects. He brings hands-on experience from thousands of installed systems and containerised BESS deployments, with a particular focus on how intelligent control and aggregation unlock value from distributed assets.​ 

Andrew leads Flexitricity’s end-to-end customer journey, spanning sales and marketing, onboarding, and the delivery of optimisation services through account management and the 24/7 trading desk. He plays a crucial role in feeding customer and market insight back into the business, helping to shape the development of Flexitricity’s products and services.  

 Andrew joined Flexitricity in 2017 as an account manager, working with key customers including front-of-meter assets such as battery storage and gas peaking plant, as well as behind-the-meter industrial and commercial flexibility under the new FlexGO brand. Before Flexitricity, he spent eight years in sales and account management for a company that provided bespoke market intelligence and research across global oil, gas, and power markets. 

Boris Davis is Head of Business Development at Lhyfe, a global pioneer in green hydrogen production. He is driving the company’s expansion into the UK market, focusing on large-scale renewable hydrogen projects. Under his leadership, Lhyfe has advanced its first UK facilities in Wallsend, North Tyneside and in Kemsley, Kent. Prior to Lhyfe, Boris held a number senior operational and commercial roles across Shell’s Downstream businesses including Retail and Aviation and holds an MEng from the University of Oxford.  

Bret is responsible for the City’s Climate Change Strategy working in partnership with 25 plus voluntary, private and public sector organisations developing solutions to carbon reduction, biodiversity, circular economy, adaptation and resilience whilst facilitating a just transition for all and working in partnership with colleagues across the City in the Development of a Green Skills Routemap.  A member of ISEPs National Policy & Implementation Working Group, an Innovate UK RESO Pilot, CDP ‘A’ Rated city and a UK pilot Adaptation & Resilience Reporting (ARP4) authority which recently led the development of the City’s Adaptation and Resilience Strategy & Implementation Plan.   

Bridget is leading the setting up of Regional Energy Strategic Planning for GB, a new role given to NESO in November 2023. In this role Bridget is creating regional energy planning teams with a whole energy system, stakeholder led approach to strategic energy planning joining up local energy plans and ambitions with national energy plans.   

Bridget is a chartered gas engineer with over 25 years leadership experience mainly within gas transmission and distribution. This has covered a wide number of strategic, regulatory, asset management, stakeholder and operational leadership roles. 

Catherine brings 15+ years of grid engineering expertise spanning major energy generation, storage, and demand projects across transmission and distribution networks. As a Connectologist® at Roadnight Taylor, she guides energy developers, investors, data centres, and industrial clients through complex grid connection challenges. 

She has been closely involved with the Connections Reform process, sitting on National Energy System Operator’s (NESO) Connections Process Advisory Group (CPAG) and currently sits on several industry code change workgroups.  Over the years Catherine has sought to support good regulatory policy with her technical expertise, providing technical advice to Ofgem and Government. Before joining Roadnight Taylor, Catherine led the grid connection team at power systems consultancy TNEI. 

Charles is Managing Director of Eclipse Power Solutions: the expert grid consultancy business within the Eclipse Power group. The group also includes Eclipse Power Networks, a licensed IDNO with a particular focus on EHV connections; and Eclipse Power Optimise, a new business to own and operate private networks and microgrids. Eclipse Power’s mission is to simplify electricity connections.

Charles has spent 7 years in the grid connections space, initially for developers securing and developing multiple GWs of grid connections for solar PV, battery energy storage and gas to power schemes – both at distribution and transmission, including behind the meter. Charles joined Eclipse Power in November 2022, as Head of Grid Connections with a responsibility for managing the contractual and technical interface between the IDNO and upstream DNOs/TOs/NESO for Eclipse’s EHV and transmission-connected projects. Eclipse Power Solutions was launched in October 2024 to provide expert grid consultancy to customers earlier in the development cycle, including for schemes that are not suitable to be adopted by the IDNO.

During this period, the grid connections landscape has changed significantly. Charles regularly sits on relevant code working groups, to develop modifications and improvements to the existing codes, such as CUSC and DCUSA. Charles has worked with other parties to co-propose modifications and most recently has been involved in the working groups for the impending Connections Reform.”

Chris is a commercial Energy and Mobility lawyer, with nearly 20 years’ experience in the sustainability sphere. With specialist knowledge of battery storage, solar, EV infrastructure and wind, Chris regularly advises funders, asset owners, developers and contractors on renewable energy projects and the trading and procurement of renewable power. From PPAs and optimisation agreements to commercial frameworks for energy and EV developments, Chris has worked on some of the most exciting UK and international energy and mobility developments.  

He is also a keen advocate for innovation in the energy and mobility space  and is passionate about working on new commercial models to drive ever quicker towards Net Zero, from voluntary carbon offset schemes, local energy markets and a host of data-driven flexibility projects.  

Chris also takes an active role in the development of energy policy, and was a steering group member of the Government’s Energy Data Task Force as well as chairing the Electricity Storage Networks Markets and Revenues Group. He was also included in 

Claire joined Flexitricity in 2019 as the Head of Regulation. She works to increase market opportunities for flexible energy as policy, regulations and codes change to facilitate a net zero future. She brings a deep level of understanding of the potential for non-traditional energy participants to generate revenue and accelerate decarbonisation. 

Claire has worked in the energy industry for over eleven years, covering policy and regulatory developments for technologies including energy storage, onshore wind, and legacy fossil fuel assets. Before that, she worked for environmental NGOs in a range of external affairs and strategy roles. She sits on the DSO Review Panel for Northern Powergrid, providing independent assurance for customers that flexibility decision making is sound.

Prior to joining Form Energy, David was Chief Commercial Officer at Open Energi, a leading energy storage optimisation company. He drove Open Energi’s commercial growth globally, culminating in the sale of the business to bp in July 2021.

David holds an MA in Economics & Politics from the University of Edinburgh and an MSc in Energy, Trade & Finance from Bayes Business School.

Dr Alastair Martin founded the first demand side response business in Great Britain in 2004. Alongside heading up Flexitricity, Alastair has worked on a range of energy policy developments and participates in several key regulatory working groups and committees with the Association for Decentralised Energy, NESO and others.

Alastair is a professional energy engineer with experience ranging from gigawatt-scale coal and nuclear power stations, through industrial efficiency, to small wind, solar, biomass and hydro generators. Before founding Flexitricity, Alastair worked on energy efficiency and renewable energy at Scottish Water.

Over 30 years of experience in Transmission and Distribution engineering, project management, operations and system planning roles I have recently moved into the area of data management to help SSEN Transmission in our journey towards becoming a fully data driven organisation. 

A physicist and technologist turned social entrepreneur, Ben joined Centrica as Director of Research & Innovation in 2022 to accelerate research and innovation. Fusing academia with entrepreneurship, Ben launched Energised Futures, powered by Centrica in the summer of 2024. With a PhD from Imperial College London, working on the COMET experiment in Japan, and postdoc research with the University of Bristol, Ben pivoted from academia to entrepreneurialism, as co-founder and CEO of RemotelyGreen. Bringing world-class research and visionary commercialism, Ben is leading the Energised Futures team with expertise and laser focus to truly accelerate a new energy future. 

Cathy McClay is Managing Director of National Grid DSO, where she leads the planning and operation of a smart, flexible distribution system that supports local customers and communities.

With over 25 years in the electricity industry, Cathy has worked across the UK and Europe in roles spanning energy trading, strategy, and system operation. At National Grid System Operator, she led the opening up of ancillary service markets to new forms of flexibility, including batteries and demand-side response. She later led Trading and Optimisation at Sembcorp UK, managing a portfolio of flexible assets.

Prior , Cathy was Director of Flexibility at ENOWA, the energy company of NEOM in Saudi Arabia, where she was responsible for ensuring that everything was in place to be able to balance and control the fully renewable energy system, including the design and implementation of the flexibility market.  In addition, Cathy led the teams developing the physical flexible assets needed to balance the system, including a 2.1GW, 23 GWh pumped storage station in the desert.

In December 2025, Cathy was appointed as the first Flexibility Commissioner for Great Britain.

Fairouz Zobiri, PhD is a control engineer and energy systems expert focused on unlocking smart, inclusive energy solutions. She holds a PhD in applied mathematics from the University of Grenoble Alps and completed postdoc research at KU Leuven. At Energised Futures, she leads work on AI-driven modelling and community energy systems. 

Dr Fionnuala Costello is Programme Director for the £1bn Net Zero Innovation Portfolio. Her responsibilities are to support innovation relevant to the DESNZ policy areas of hydrogen, bioenergy, industrial decarbonisation, greenhouse gas removals (including direct air capture) and carbon capture use and storage (CCUS). Before joining DESNZ in June 2023, she spent 15 years at Innovate UK, part of UKRI, funding innovation in businesses. She holds a degree in mechanical engineering from University College Dublin and MSc and PhD in materials science from the University of Manchester. Her early industrial career was in the steel industry before moving into public sector innovation funding. 

Jamie has an academic background, obtaining a PhD in solar energy resource assessment through data science application (University of Leeds 2012-2017). He has applied that research in real-time solar forecasting using satellite imagery, feeding intellectual property into a startup called Solcast, later acquired by DNV (Australian National Uni 2017-2019). He has further applied his research in developing real-time operational solar PV forecasting for Singapore Power network (Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore, National University of Singapore, 2019-2021) and since joining UKPN in 2021 he has created our first short term operational forecasting software in the newly formed Data Science & Development team in the DSO.

Dr Michaela Kendall is CEO of Adelan, one of the world’s first fuel cell businesses.  Adelan is commercialising a fuel cell technology she co-invented.  Dr Kendall managed industrial R&D programmes at Adelan funded by the US, EU and Chinese governments.  She is an environmental scientist and technologist, building a 35 year career which addressed the emissions, security and cost of energy. Faculty positions in America, Asia and Europe, enabled Dr Kendall to work with powerful strategic policy networks and businesses at the US EPA, the UN, the NIEHS, HEI, NYU in New York and UNIDO Hydrogen Centre in Istanbul, Turkey.  

Ed Birkett is New Projects Director at Low Carbon, a UK-headquartered developer and Independent Power Producer (IPP). Since 2018, Low Carbon has achieved planning permission for over 2,000 MW of solar projects in the UK. Ed leads on Low Carbon’s work on UK grid connections origination and policy. He has been heavily involved in the debates over NESO’s programme of Connections Reform.

Edward Ross is Co-founder and Technical Director at Gridimp, a leading energy technology company whose purpose is to make demand-side flexibility a reality and drive the transition to a smart, flexible, low-carbon energy network. Edward leads the technical team and has extensive experience deploying complex software solutions to automate energy flexibility behind the meter. Gridimp’s cutting-edge cloud platform empowers AI-driven smart microgrids, automated control, and advanced analytics based on real-time meter data, delivering low-cost, low-carbon energy operations for non-domestic consumers. Edward is passionate about harnessing distributed AI to unlock the full potential of flexible energy assets. 

Eleanor is currently Ofgem’s Director of Energy System Design and Development, a role that spans Ofgem’s engagement in Clean Power 2030 and the SSEP, to the distributed energy, digitised data and innovation that will help transform our future energy system.

Before that Eleanor worked as Director of Energy Systems, Markets and Security where she led Ofgem’s work on markets and charging, and worked with Government to deliver the legal transformation of electricity system operator to the NESO.

Eleanor joined Ofgem in 2016, from the Department of Energy and Climate change where she led energy on issues relating to energy security and international energy engagement. This followed a range of jobs in a number of central government departments to support the counter-terrorism and preventing extremism agenda. 

Finn Howley is a market analyst at RheEnergise. With a background in energy modelling and energy policy, his work at RheEnergise is focused on assessing market and policy drivers as well as competitive positioning and techno-economic project modelling. 

Gabor is a passionate advocate for sustainable energy solutions and innovative technologies that make the world more efficient and resilient. Gavin Donaldson is a Senior Commercial Analyst at Highview, where he supports the development of grid-scale long-duration energy storage (LDES) and grid stability projects across the UK. His work focuses on Highview’s liquid air energy storage technology, guiding projects from their initial idea through to financial close. 

In his role, Gavin oversees project financing, commercial strategy, market analysis, and raising capital, supporting portfolio development opportunities across energy storage and grid stability. He was a key contributor to Highview’s application to Ofgem’s Cap & Floor scheme, and currently, two of the company’s projects are under review by Ofgem and NESO. 

George joined Invinity in September 2024 as their European Sales Director and is focused on delivering Lond Duration Energy Storage solutions.  He is tasked with promoting Invinity’s exciting technology of Vanadium Flow Batteries into the European energy markets.

George is a Chartered Engineer with a degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering and an MA in Sales Management with over 30 years’ experience in the Energy sector.  He has worked for a number of large international organisations including Siemens, Capgemini, Schneider Electric, Babcock & Wilcox, Honeywell and Rockwell.

George has a passion for engineering and as a STEM ambassador he is working with local schools in promoting engineering as a career of choice.  He is chair for a local charity that supports young people moving from education into the world of work and in addition, he is actively involved in the running of Derby Rugby Club.

Georgina leads Zenobē’s engagement with policymakers, industry stakeholders, and public institutions. With a focus on strategic advocacy, she ensures that Zenobē’s innovative solutions in energy storage and fleet electrification align with and influence governmental and regulatory frameworks.

Georgina is an experienced policy professional with over ten years in the UK Civil Service, focusing on energy flexibility and clean technologies. She specialises in energy storage and demand-side response, contributing to the energy transition. Prior to joining Zenobē, she served as Head of Capacity Market Policy for Low Carbon Technologies at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), where she led essential reforms to enhance the UK’s energy security. Previously, she was the Energy Storage Innovation Lead at DESNZ, launching the £70M Longer Duration Energy Storage Demonstration (LODES) programme.

Gerry has worked for SP Energy Networks for 20 years, covering a range of commercial and operational commercial roles. Gerry has been championing the use of Flexibility Services and growing our capabilities from our first tender in 2019. As the Head of Flexibility, Gerry is leading the procurement and implementation of Flexibility and ensuring that it represents the lowest overall cost for consumers. Previous projects include; the deployment of our Active Network Management system(s), the implementation of Ofgem’s Access Significant Code Review and the engineering lead for our RIIO-ED1 business plan submission.

Jack is the Head of Policy at Octopus Energy Group. He is also an Adjunct Fellow at the Council on Geostrategy, a geopolitical think tank, focusing on energy and environment research. He was previously a policy adviser to the previous Energy Secretary, Claire Coutinho. Before that, he ran the think tank Onward’s energy and environment programme and CEN’s climate campaigns. 

James is an inventor, entrepreneur, and Cambridge University trained engineer and co-founder and CEO of Caldera Heat Batteries.  His professional journey spans over 15 years in energy research and development, coupled with over 25 years of business experience.  As an inventor, he has made significant steps in thermal energy storage, and he now holds more than 20 patent families.  In business, away from engineering, James took a failing company and built it into Cambridge’s largest tourist business. 

James’ role at Caldera is underpinned by a deep understanding of the commercial requirements for new technologies, especially in the UK energy sector.  Previously, James served as the CEO of Isentropic for 10 years, where he led a team of 21 engineers working on grid-scale thermal energy storage. 

A respected industry leader and passionate advocate for the widescale deployment of decarbonized energy assets across the grid from residential and industrial applications to utility-scale projects. His vision centres on creating a clean energy future that is inclusive, affordable, and equitable, addressing both the drive to net zero and the urgent need to reduce energy poverty. 
 
With over 15 years in senior roles within the renewable energy sector, Jason has led initiatives in biogas, hydro (Severn Trent Water), battery manufacturing (Hoppecke, GivEnergy), and solar distribution (Segen, HDM Solar). His broader career spans global companies such as Caterpillar and Rapiscan, and his work has taken him across multiple continents, engaging with governments and agencies worldwide. 
 
Jason is the founder and driving force behind the Energy Storage Association (UK), the new trade body championing storage as a cornerstone of the UK’s clean energy transition. Closer to home, he remains committed to regional impact as a visiting entrepreneur at Staffordshire University, a board advisor at Solarport and a board member of Staffordshire Community Energy. 

Jeanette has a deep pedigree of Cyber through her years of service in the Royal Air Force (RAF) where she was responsible for the cyber security of some of the most notable defence platforms such as the Typhoon and HMS Queen Elizabeth. She spent much of her service in Joint roles in Royal Navy, Army and RAF environments. Committed to continued personal development, she got her Masters in Cyber from Royal Holloway in 2021, writing her dissertation deep within the Covid pandemic! She retired from the RAF in 2019 and spent some time in industry delivering IT services in high-assurance environments including CNI. She came to Thales after being the Director of IT for 3 years in the NATO Headquarters in Brussels. Still not able to speak French with any skill whatsoever, she now works as a Managing Consultant in Thales UK, and is thoroughly enjoying it.

Jeffrey Douglass is a seasoned energy markets specialist with deep expertise in flexibility, analytics, and renewables integration. He currently works as a Senior Consultant at FTI Consulting, focusing on power market dynamics, energy policy, and strategic implications of evolving generation technologies. Based in London, Jeffrey has extensive experience modelling the interaction of solar and storage assets with wholesale markets, system balancing and ancillary services, and regularly advises industry stakeholders on optimising asset value in high-renewable-penetration environments. His work bridges technical market insight with actionable commercial strategy, helping clients navigate the transition to a cleaner, more resilient energy system. 

Jeremy is Markets & Compliance Lead for Joulen, providers of load control, optimization and flexibility trading services.

Jeremy has worked for the Australian Parliament and has held various roles in energy and environmental policy in the UK Civil Service, including the smart metering program. He spent a decade as an industry representative and lobbyist for manufacturers in the UK electrotechnical sector, where he chaired the Technical Working Group of the UK’s EV Energy Taskforce and helped establish the UK Government’s Cyber Security Code of Practice & Partnership with Industry. He was for some years a member of EnergyREV’s Strategic Advisory Board and has contributed to countless other working groups and taskforces on smart metering, EV infrastructure, energy data and demand-side flexibility. He was Chair of the smartEn e-mobility taskforce from 2023-25 and is a passionate advocate for energy flexibility as the foundation of a clean power system.

Jeroen van den Bremer is Chief Commercial Officer of Greener Power Solutions, a European provider of large-scale mobile battery systems for temporary power applications. He joined the company in September 2024 to help shape its commercial strategy and support its next phase of growth and international expansion. Previously, he served as CEO of Doornbos Equipment, a Dutch- and UK-based rental company, and held senior leadership roles at KPN, the Netherlands’ largest telecommunications provider. With more than five years of executive leadership experience, he is a highly vision-driven leader focused on accelerating the energy transition by scaling clean, reliable alternatives to fossil-fuel-based power.

As Clean Energy Infrastructure Lead, Jonny leads the development of the Green Finance Institute’s infrastructure solutions within the Built Environment Team. With 10 years of experience as an entrepreneur, Jonny’s background includes co-founding the UK’s first green merchant bank, deploying £20m into early stage climate startups, helping Octopus EV develop senior connections in corporates and governments, and supporting early stage startups on finance and governance.

Jonny is currently launching the GFI’s Heat Network Catalytic Funds solution which has been designed to catalyse debt into heat network projects. He is also developing energy-as-a-service and social housing decarbonisation solutions as part of BEP’s goal to ensure that every household has access to the financial tools they need to decarbonise.

With more than 25 years of experience in the fire safety industry as both a sales advisor and a project manager, Juri has advised on a wide variety of projects protecting industrial and high-hazard facilities from fire risk. His experience and knowledge cover all areas of protection including fire detection systems, sprinkler systems, evacuation systems, gas extinguishing systems and Thermal Runaway Management.

Karl Drage is Noventa Energy’s UK Country Head and brings over 20 years of experience in the renewable heat industry. He has a track record of leading growth in Engineering, Technology and Renewable Heat businesses.  Between 2004 and 2014 he led the development and construction of over 1,000 Ground Source Heat Pump installations, including some of the largest Ground Source and Water Source Heat Pump installations in the world. Karl has been instrumental in delivering large-scale, complex community heat projects and he has led the development of a number of Heat as a Service commercial models with venture and project finance backing. At Noventa, Karl leads the development of the business in England and Wales, pursuing business opportunities with the Noventa model in the UK, establishing relationships with the English and Welsh water companies.

Katy Read is a Whole Energy Insights Manager at NESO, where she leads strategic analysis to inform decisions shaping the future energy system. She currently heads a crosscutting project examining the role of biomethane across the whole energy system.

Prior to this, Katy has worked in the energy sector for more than a decade across government and Ofgem. During this time, she led the development of several flagship clean heat policies and schemes, contributing to the UK’s broader transition toward net zero. She brings a breadth of experience and expertise in navigating complex policy and strategic challenges in the energy transition.

Kayla Whitesel is the Director of Sales at Delta-X Research, where she helps transformer operators leverage data-driven solutions to improve asset reliability and optimize maintenance strategies. With over a decade of experience in IT, she has guided clients through complex technical environments to enhance operations. As a former Signals Officer in the Canadian Army, she also worked in battlefield communication tactics and cyber warfare.  

Kevin Ball leads Wattstor’s commercial strategy and brings more than 30 years’ experience across the global energy sector. Beginning his career at BP in the 1990s, where he served as Vice President of New Power Development, Kevin has played a key role in shaping the evolution of modern energy systems. His career highlights include the delivery of some of the UK’s largest biomass CHP projects and extensive collaboration with the agricultural community to unlock more sustainable, low-carbon operations. Today, he continues to focus on accelerating the transition to cleaner, more resilient energy solutions. 

Kevin Mukuzvazva is a senior leader in the UK electricity distribution sector with extensive experience across regulated networks and independent operators. He currently leads the creation of a new Independent Distribution Network Operator (IDNO) at E.ON. His career spans Transmission Network Operators, DNOs, and IDNOs, driving network development, operations, and governance.  

He brings a pragmatic, delivery-focused perspective on how network operators can respond to the challenges of electrification, increased demand, and the transition to a more decentralised energy system. 

Kirsty Dawson is Principal Grid Connections Manager for Statkraft UK, managing a team providing grid support to the wind, solar, grid services and e- fuels development teams within the business. Alongside Kirsty’s previous experience in the sector working for the Transmission Owner (TO) for the north of Scotland, SSEN Transmission, she brings experience across a multitude of disciplines, including regulation, policy, connections reform, compliance, and project/contract management & development. 

Kirsty Shanahan is a Project Manager at Community Energy Pathways (CEP). CEP supports local Councils and communities to develop co-operative community energy projects where individuals invest in renewables such as solar PV and battery storage to enable and encourage local organisations and people to access zero carbon, cheap energy even if they do not have the funds to install these technologies. Kirsty is currently working with the Council and groups in Essex and leading a project with the Greater South East Net Zero Hub to accelerate community energy across the South East. She is also a Founder Member of Buckinghamshire Community Energy which is developing Energise Buckinghamshire: a project to install free solar PV and battery storage in 100 homes, using monthly service payments, income from providing flexibility services and SEG payments to provide a return to Members and a sustainable income to fund its Energy Champions service 

With more than 20 years’ experience in banking and sustainability, Lauren joined Aldermore Bank in 2024 to establish and lead a new Energy & Infrastructure Financing team, providing project & asset finance to businesses developing and operating renewable energy infrastructure. In its first 12 months the team has committed to lend more than £60m across EV charging, solar and battery storage projects. 

Lucas has spent the last 16 years in the renewables industry working in leadership roles across the entire project lifecycle. He has built engineering, grid connections, operations, construction, and compliance teams in the U.K. and U.S., contributing to the development, construction, and operations of GWs of renewable capacity. His experience spans solar, wind, BESS and collocated sites at all voltage levels.  

Mark Williams is a Senior Advisor in EDF Energy’s Net Zero Strategy and Policy team. He is an energy policy expert with extensive experience spanning consultancy, public affairs, and industry. At EDF, Mark has led the company’s engagement with the rapidly evolving flexibility policy landscape under Clean Power 2030, while supporting the development of new flexibility products across the business. Before joining EDF, Mark was Head of Analysis at Energy UK. He holds a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Oxford. 

Matt Nixon is a Chartered Engineer (CEng MIMechE) and Project Manager for Carbon Reduction at Adur & Worthing Councils. With over a decade of engineering experience, he specialises in technology innovation and decarbonisation, leading the council’s mission to become carbon neutral by 2030.  

Matt previously built a diverse career in the motorsport industry as a Race Engineer for sports prototypes and served as an Engineering Manager in the transport sector. He now applies this technical expertise to major infrastructure works, including the Worthing Heat Network, which will provide sustainable energy to local landmarks like the Town Hall and Connaught Theatre.

Maurice Lynch holds a fellowship in engineering from the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and is a chartered European engineer certified by the European Federation of National Engineering Associations (FEANI). He has over 15 years of experience working in senior roles related to policy and standards, innovation, system flexibility, and connections at electricity distribution companies Electricity North West Limited (ENWL) and Northern Powergrid (NPg). Maurice currently serves as Engineering Director (Power) at United Infrastructure. In his spare time, he volunteers and supports the IET Energy Panel, who are a group of industry experts who provide strategic advice to the government on energy related topics and issues.

Max Slade is Chief Operating Officer at Harmony Energy, leading the delivery of the company’s battery energy storage and renewable energy projects. In 2025, he oversaw a milestone transaction for the Harmony Energy Income Trust portfolio, a landmark moment for the UK battery energy storage market. Max has extensive experience across the energy sector, including advising investors and developers, co-directing energy investment teams, and managing funds for a UK private family office. He combines financial and operational expertise to help Harmony Energy expand clean energy capacity across Europe.

Michael specialises in global insurance portfolios for power and renewable energy assets, creating lenderready programmes for utility and privateequity clients. Since 2009 he has supported wind and solar owners in advancing energytransition technologies. In 2014 he helped a major developer form a partnership with a Chinese battery integrator for expansion into the US market. In 2019 he introduced a new battery system to the London insurance market for a client entering a longterm deployment agreement; the technology has since become a market leader. He holds a geography degree from Colgate University and a master’s in international relations and energy policy from Johns Hopkins University. 

Michael Simpson is co-founder and Chief Commercial & Product Officer for Keep Energy Systems, leading the development of a modular compressed air energy storage technology for commercial and industrial customers in need of 5-20 hours of storage. He previously worked on a range of gas turbine design and analysis challenges for Rolls-Royce Plc. and conducted research into energy storage at the University of Nottingham. Mike has a PhD in high-efficiency compression/expansion from Imperial College London and an undergraduate degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Cambridge.

An engineer with over 30 years of experience in the building services arena. Starting as an applications engineer and progressing through product management, external sales and consultancy. The last 20 years have been specifically within the district energy market working with consultants, ESCo’s and building owners on best practice sizing, design, installation, operation and troubleshooting of heating and cooling networks. Specific experience in the integration of renewable energy sources such as heat pumps (air, ground, water), CHP, solar thermal, biomass, waste heat etc. through the sizing and layout of the network pipework, to the terminal units such as FCU’s, HIU’s, heat emitters etc. A collaborator who has worked with a number of organisations, such as CIBSE, BSRIA, ASHRAE, IDEA, BESA & BEIS etc. having created, gained approval and conducted a large number of engineering industry CPD seminars. Experience working with consultants and on projects across many countries including Scandinavia, Europe, Middle East, Asia Pacific, the US and Canada. 

Nick has a BA (Hons) from the University of Leeds, holding an LCGI in Leadership and Management, and a former infantry officer in the British Army, serving with the 3rd Battalion, The Yorkshire Regiment (Duke of Wellingtons). Nick has worked globally over the past 20 years bringing renewable energy to places that need it most across EMEA, LATAM, Asia & Africa. Delivering over 30 megawatts, he understands the importance of energy analysis to get the most out of your renewable energy investment.

Dr Nina Klein is a Flexibility Policy Expert at Ofgem, working in the Decentralised Energy Systems team. Key projects include Clean Power 2030, Flexibility Digital Infrastructure policy enabling small scale flexibility to access ESO and DSO markets, and the Smart Secure Energy Systems program licencing aggregators and standardising smart appliances. 

Previously, Nina was an Energy Engineer at BEIS advising on smart energy policy, including PAS 1878/79 for Energy Smart Appliances. During a secondment to ESO Nina led various digital innovation projects, including CrowdFlex and the Virtual Energy System. 

Pat leads ESI’s policy and research activities and works with ESI members to develop position papers and consultation responses that facilitate the development of energy storage on the island of Ireland

Phil has over 12 years of experience in the electricity industry, having joined National Grid Electricity Distribution after graduating. He is currently Head of System Models & Data at NG DSO, where he leads the development of network modelling and data capabilities to support a smarter, more resilient electricity system. With extensive expertise in modelling distribution systems and their design, Phil works closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to enable innovative, data-driven solutions for future energy challenges. His focus is on delivering the tools, data and strategy needed to unlock the digital grid of tomorrow. 

Phil is the Future Technologies Evangelist at Octopus Energy, leading the research & development team, and applying cutting edge technology to develop new innovation across the whole of the energy chain.  
 
Some of the tech-led innovation Phil is working on includes the Octopus Agile tariff, making the grid more flexible to cope with the realities of intermittent renewable generation, and Powerloop, a project that could turn millions of electric cars into mini battery packs to supply the grid when renewables energy is in short supply.  
 
Phil joined Octopus Energy following the acquisition of his entech startup nCube, a pioneer in IOT platform development, with award-winning tech that acts as a bridge to connect IOT devices, using Z-Wave, WiFi, Zigbee, Bluetooth and LAN.   
 
Prior to nCube, Phil helped launch a mobile advertising startup in Canada, and delivered numerous innovations at O2 such as messaging, pre-pay & mobile internet. He regularly subjects his wife and three children to trialling out his latest gadgets in energy tech.  

Quentin Donnette is a Senior Market Analyst at smartEn – Smart Energy Europe, the European business association for the Flexible Demand Management industry. He previously worked as a Business Developer in the aggregation services of a utility. Quentin holds a Master’s degree in European Affairs from Paris-Sorbonne University and a Bachelor’s degree in European Studies from Maastricht University.

My background spans demand side response, ancillary services, and customer led optimisation, working closely with industrial clients, developers, and network operators. I bring a grounded, customer centric perspective to how flexibility can accelerate decarbonisation while delivering real economic benefits. 

Rebecca Zeitlin is the Technical Services Director at Protium, one of the UK’s leading hydrogen project developers. A recognised expert in hydrogen strategy and policy, Rebecca leads the team designing and delivering downstream hydrogen infrastructure. Technical Services enables clients to utilise delivered hydrogen molecules, including by deploying equipment like fuel cell generators. In previous roles, Rebecca has worked in clean tech and aerospace & defence – with a primary focus on commercialising British innovation.

Ruchira Shah is General Manager of Software Product Management at Wärtsilä Energy Storage, leading the full GEMS value stack across power plant controls and monitoring, battery analytics, intelligent bid optimization, and our battery management system. Prior to joining Wärtsilä, Ruchi was the Director of Product Management at Hanwha Q CELLS/GELI and Manager of the Commercial Proposal Team at Tesla. Ruchira holds a master’s degree in social policy from The London School of Economics.

Sanjeet brings 15 years of strategic leadership in the energy sector, with a specialized focus on utility grid operations, renewable energy integration, and strategic planning for net-zero transitions. As a seasoned leader, Sanjeet has effectively guided multidisciplinary teams through complex engineering, economic, and regulatory challenges, aligning energy system capabilities with future-focused strategies. Previously, Sanjeet worked for BloombergNEF as the Head of Grids & Utilities. There he led a global team of analysts to perform energy system modelling, horizon scanning, policy development, and technological innovation for net-zero energy systems. This role capitalized on his expertise gained at BC Hydro, where, as an engineer in transmission planning and grid operations, he played a pivotal role in operational strategies and infrastructure projects that shaped one of Canada’s largest electric utilities. He holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of British Columbia and an MBA from the University of Cambridge.

Sarah is the External Affairs Lead for the Worthing Heat Network, where she oversees strategic communications, public relations, and the delivery of social value for the project. Bringing a focus on transparent engagement and community impact, Sarah works closely with residents, local partners, and stakeholders to support the transition to low-carbon heat in Worthing. She leads on project communications, media relations, and initiatives that create lasting social, environmental, and economic benefits.

Before joining the Worthing Heat Network, Sarah worked as a public affairs consultant in Westminster, advising clients on political strategy, stakeholder relations, and regulatory issues. Her background also includes experience on U.S. political campaigns and service in the office of a Member of Congress in the U.S. House of Representatives, where she supported strategic communications and constituent outreach. Sarah was also previously a Fulbright Scholar to the UK.

Shaniyaa Holness-Mckenzie is a Market Analyst at Modo Energy, a company that provides research, data, benchmarks, and forecasts for electrification assets in Great Britain. She specializes in analyzing battery storage data, covering topics like market trends, buildout reports, and the impacts of policy updates on BESS revenue.

Shraiya leads knowledge for the clean energy team at Freeths. She is an energy policy and regulatory expert who is regularly interviewed in industry press such as Utility Week, Solar Power Portal and Energy Storage News and has presented at industry forums including the Westminster Energy Forum, REA and Energy UK. Before her knowledge role, Shraiya worked across the full lifecycle of renewable energy and energy storage projects with a particular focus on complex route to market arrangements, grid connections, industry regulation and early-stage investment.

Simon is the Global Digital Energy Leader and the Global Digital Twin Leader at Arup, Vice President, Trustee, and Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, and Board Member and Chair of the Gemini Call for Digital Twin Hub. 

As both a technology developer and a chartered mechanical engineer, with a background in renewables and offshore oil and gas, Simon is an industry and board advisor for digital transformation and technology and has a passion for the transformational applications of digital technology.

Stephen Hart is responsible for generating revenue growth in the Heat Networks sector for The BDR Thermea Group, by leading and supporting the sales activities in the sector in each of the groups operating companies across Europe including BAXI in the UK and Ireland. With extensive B2B sales experience, Stephen established a new division at Baxi to integrate renewable heat generation technologies from BDR Thermea Group, tapping onto the low-carbon HVAC market. Prior to his roles within BAXI and BDR, he has held business leadership and development roles in Europe and in UK driving growth in energy-efficient solutions, including heat pumps and heat networks. Stephen is committed to advancing the energy transition with expertise in district heating, energy retrofits, and HVAC design.

Steve is a Senior Business Development Manager at Zenobē, responsible for shaping strategy, driving M&A, and leading the development and financing of Zenobē’s battery storage pipeline in the UK and Germany. 

Previously, he financed early-stage clean energy technologies at the Australian Renewable Energy Agency, focusing on advanced battery storage and electric vehicles. He started his career at PwC, working on major infrastructure and energy transactions. 

I am the Chief Financial Officer for Elexon. I joined Elexon in September 2023 as Chief Financial Officer and lead three of our teams: Finance, Supply Chain Management and Risk & Internal Audit. 

I have a background in both the energy and not for profit sectors. I worked for Powergen, E.ON and then Uniper for 20 years and have experience across many parts of the energy sector in the UK, US and Germany. For the last ten years I have led Finance and wider corporate support functions, and for the last five I have worked for charities, including International Development with Oxfam and the disability care homes charity Leonard Cheshire 

Steven has a technical background grounded in 15 years of working across two different DNOs, with roles spanning electrical planning, innovation, digital and DSO. This is augmented with time in consultancy working on several influential projects such as Virtual Energy System, Digital Spine and Flexibility Markets Unlocked. In his role of Head of Flexibility at Elexon, he is leading the set up and ongoing operation of the Market Facilitator and Flexibility Market Asset Register (FMAR) while driving forward flexibility markets as a whole, providing strategic leadership enabling Clean Power 2030 and Net Zero targets to be met.

Chartered Engineer,  extensive experience in energy services and distributed energy, working in client and service provider capacity over the last 30-years specialising in the development and delivery of energy transition and decarbonisation schemes for both public and private sector alike 

Stuart leads the development of AMP’s diverse low-carbon heat and power projects, overseeing some of the company’s largest and most intricate installations. With 15 years in the heat decarbonisation sector, he boasts a solid track record in helping customers achieve their net zero objectives. Stuart is well-versed in policies and subsidies advancing the net zero cause and leads on government interactions for AMP. 

Tom Johnston joined RWE in 2023 following the acquisition of the PV and BESS development pipeline from JBM Solar. Since then, he has been working on bringing these hybrid projects through FID and into delivery, with over 600MW of PV under construction in the UK, alongside over 200MW of Hybrid BESS. Due to the regulatory barriers surrounding the projects DC-coupled hybrid setup, Tom has worked with industry and regulators to advocate for metering reform, ensuring hybrid BESS can access all applicable revenue streams.

Thomas is Business Development Manager for ION+, a groundbreaking software platform designed to optimise the performance of energy assets from an operational and trading perspective. 

Thomas is experienced in driving growth at the intersection of energy, utilities, and SaaS. He specialises in translating complex customer challenges into scalable technology solutions, forging strategic partnerships, and navigating multi-stakeholder decision cycles in highly regulated industries. Thomas has deep expertise in the co-optimization and operation of renewable assets, including electric vehicles, battery energy storage systems and solar. His passion lies in harnessing data and software to drive resilience, flexibility, and innovation across the energy ecosystem 

Vicky is Senior Director for Energy at Local Partnerships. She is responsible for the development and growth of our energy products and services, specifically services to support councils’ decarbonisation plans through the development and delivery of low carbon heat strategies and retrofit. 

Vicky is an experienced project and programme manager within the energy sector. Her previous experience includes delivering large scale investment programmes in both the domestic and non-domestic energy sector to European, government and public sector clients. During her time at Local Partnerships she has successfully led the rollout of Re:fit (a national energy performance contracting framework, co-owned with the Greater London Authority) across England and Wales. Vicky is now leading the developing and delivering services to support councils’ decarbonisation plans through the development and delivery of low carbon heat strategies and retrofit. 

Zeenat is a Principal Analyst in Wood Mackenzie’s global energy storage team, specialising in battery supply chains, and BESS grid integration and revenue optimisation across multiple markets. She has over seven years of experience in energy storage and flexibility services, including working in Denmark as a Senior Energy Flexibility expert supporting TSOs, DSOs, developers and aggregators with the market integration of large-scale battery projects. Zeenat holds a PhD in electrical engineering from Denmark, a Master’s in Energy Engineering from Australia, and a bachelor’s in electrical engineering from Pakistan
